YOUCREATE LAB POLICY

  1. PURPOSE

The purpose of the YouCreate Lab is to provide library patrons with a space where they may use various digital media technologies that support their educational, professional, and personal goals and endeavors.

  1. ELIGIBILITY

The YouCreate Lab is available to Park City Library users ages 12 and up. Users ages 11 and under must have an adult accompanying them in the lab at all times. Users do not have to have a library card to use the YouCreate Lab but must have valid school orgovernment issued identification.

III. USE

  1. The YouCreate Lab is open during normal library hours, but it closes 30 minutes prior to the library closing.
  2. The library’s 3-D printers, computers, sound booth, video recording equipment, and digitizer may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be permitted to use the library’s YouCreate Equipment to create scan, or record, material that is:

 Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.

 Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others or such use that may violate terms of use of the manufacturer.

 Inappropriate for the library environment.

 In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent,trademark, or trade dress protection.

  1. Patrons must watch video training, read written instructions, or be trained in person by a staff member, before using any YouCreate equipment, such as the Sound Booth, the video equipment, or the 3D printer(s).
  2. Patrons must report any accident or incident that occurs in the YouCreate Lab to a staff member immediately.
  3. If any piece of equipment becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, patrons will immediately discontinue use of the equipment and notify library staff.

IV. LIBRARY LIABILITY

The Park City Library is not liable for any loss, damage, or expense sustained by anypatron due to the use of the YouCreate Lab services, equipment, software, advice or nformation. Library staff is not available to assist in the transporting or transferring of supplies, equipment, or furniture to and from the YouCreate lab.  The Park City Library is not responsible for any object created with the use of any equipment in the YouCreate Lab and is not liable for any copyright, patent or trademark infringement, personal injury, illness, or death arising out of the careless, reckless, or negligent use of the equipment.

V.BEHAVIOR

Behavior in the YouCreate Lab is to be consistent with the library’s Patron Behavior policy. No food or drink is allowed in the lab. Internet and equipment usage must be consistent with the library’s Internet and Electronic Resources Use policy. These policies can be found on the library website under the policies section or they can be viewed at the library front desk.

V. ITEMS & LOAN PERIOD

  1. Some YouCreate Lab equipment is available to check out for in-library use and some is available to check out and use outside of the library for five days, with no holds or renewals.
  2. Patrons may check out no more than four YouCreate items at a time.
  3. The individual who checks out the equipment is responsible for any damage or misuse of the equipment. Users who lose or damage equipment will be charged the replacement cost of the equipment.
  4. If a group checks out YouCreate equipment to work on together, the individual who checks out the equipment with his or her ID or library card will be considered the main user and is responsible for any damage or misuse of the equipment.
  5. If a group of five or more wishes to check out YouCreate equipment for in-house use, they must make arrangements with the library at least twenty four hours ahead of time.
  6. Loans of in-house YouCreate Lab equipment will be available for all Park City Library users with a valid ID. In-House equipment cannot be taken outside the library building, and must be returned directly to a staff member before the user leaves the library.
  7. Only Library Patrons with a valid Park City Library Card will be allowed to check out YouCreate Lab equipment for out-of-house use.
  8. YouCreate Lab items available for check out must be returned to the service desk inside the library and may not be returned in the book drop.

VII. FINES

Ten dollars per day will be charged for equipment returned after the due date. Patrons will be held financially responsible for any YouCreate Lab equipment that is damaged or lost while checked out to them. The Park City Library may file a police report and press criminal charges in accordance with the Library’s Theft or Defacement of Library Materials policy. Exceptions/adjustments may be made at the discretion of the Library Director.

VIII. 3-D PRINTING

  1. After initial heating or printing, Patrons agree to let the 3D printer(s) cool down completely before powering off machine.
  2. Patrons agree to not touch the extruders on the 3D printer(s) during or after initial heating with their hands, other body parts, or any objects.
  3. Items printed from the library’s 3-D printer(s) not picked up within seven days after being printed become the property of the library. Items must be picked up by the individual who printed them using an ID.
  4. The Library will charge five cents per gram for 3-D prints. The prints will be weighed at the information desk and patrons will need to pay for the prints before leaving the library.
  5. Patrons will not stop a print job of another patron that is already in progress.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    IX.AGREEMENT

By using the YouCreate Lab or any equipment therein, Patrons agree to abide by the YouCreate Lab policy. Patrons that do not comply with the Lab policy and rules will lose their privileges to use the Lab and to check out Lab equipment for a period determined by the Library Director or his or her designee in accordance with the following schedule:

  1. Immediate expulsion from YouCreate Lab
  2. Suspension of YouCreate Lab for a period of up to 3 years
  3. Library may file police report and press criminal charges

Use YouCreate Lab to create, scan, or record material that violates state, local, or federal law Use YouCreate lab in a way that is unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others

Use YouCreate Lab in a way that is inappropriate

for library environment, or violates

intellectual property rights.

  1. Immediate expulsion from YouCreate Lab for a period of 24 hours
  2. Further offenses may warrant a suspension from YouCreate lab for up to one year

Violating Patron Behavior Policy

or any other library policy within YouCreate Lab

  1. Immediate expulsion from YouCreate Lab for a period of 24 hours
  2. Further offenses may warrant a suspension from YouCreate lab for up to one year
  3. APPEAL PROCESS

Any person who is expelled from the YouCreate Lab or whose access to YouCreate Lab

services is revoked for a period greater than 24 hours may appeal these actions directly to

the Library Director. An additional appeal may be made to the Library Board.
